Home Fried #Blacklivesmatter

Dear Friends,

Tremendous grief and outrage over the senseless deaths of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Breonna Taylor in Kentucky, and Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia has erupted across the country and world. These tragic murders are just the latest in a series of long and painful reminders that too many People of Color continue to live in fear of murder and violence because of the color of their skin.

This must end! We stand in solidarity in the fight to hold racists accountable and tear down systems of oppression.  We stand strong in our conviction that we need to confront the ways in which we are each complicit in allowing violence, hate, and discrimination to prosper. We need to start listening to our brother and sisters and encourage everyone to participate in demonstrations of peace and unity while taking a stand against evil.

We have become aware that the word ‘boogaloo” has recently been coopted by members of the Alt-Right and other hate groups who in no way represent the values that the band has. For us, “boogaloo” was always an expression of what we feel our music is; a mix of funk, soul, and Latin dance music. We have decided; however, that the best course of action is to drop the word “boogaloo” and simply go by the name “Home Fried”. This was a difficult decision for us to make as the word honored the genre and those musicians who inspire us, however, we will not stand for any alignment with white supremacy, unintentional or otherwise.

Together in funk, rage, grief, and power.  No justice, no peace! #Blacklivesmatter
